THE DIRECT EXPERIENCE~ALLA PRIMA STILL LIFE AND COLOR/LIGHT LAB Atelier

Explore Direct Painting, Alla Prima Painting. We will cover all aspects of Direct Painting: composition, observation, light, color, methods, techniques, materials and fundamentals including skills of execution and expression. Each class offers new and challenging exercises, which will hone skills. This course will cover the finer points and subtlety in art which can only be addressed when superimposed over previously developed and executed paintings. The Atelier addresses the need of the serious artist to create masterful works of art. This applies to any level of experience from the complete beginner to the long-time professional seeking to improve their work. Plenty of individual attention is given. This allows us to surpass any existing adult level art education offered anywhere and rivaling any university level system of art education.

THE ATELIER PROGRAM IS A 6 HOUR CLASS DESIGNED TO BENEFIT THE STUDENT, WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT LEARNING PAINTING IN DEPTH.

PORTRAIT AND FIGURE OIL PAINTING AND DRAWING

Learn to accurately render the human form. You will develop your technical skills for drawing and painting in oils by studying light, values, color and by gaining an understanding of edges and planes. Alla Prima painting skills will be taught to encourage technical accuracy. Students may choose to work in pastel, oil, watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, or other drawing and painting media.

For the pastelist:

Pastel offers a unique bridge between drawing and painting. This class, suited for both beginner and advanced artists, covers techniques in both oil and chalk pastel, giving the student a solid introduction and foundation to pastel painting. Each class offers new and challenging exercises, which will hone skills.

For the painter:

Explore direct painting, alla prima painting. We will cover aspects of painting: composition, observation, light, color, methods, techniques, materials and fundamentals including skills of execution and expression. Each class offers new and challenging exercises, which will hone skills.

An emphasis on accurate perception, the importance of understanding the qualities of light and utilization of color harmony will be covered which translates to any medium. 
This class will allow you to explore subjects while building skill and confidence in your handling of medium.

Plenty of individual attention is given.
This is slated to be pastel class but other media are welcome,
(Oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, drawing media)

The John Kilroy Fine Art Academy is a small, world class training center for the discerning and serious learner of any skill level.


Our fully equipped climate controlled large studio classroom space has 10 foot ceilings and with color balanced 5000K (Artist North Light) adjustable illumination. We have a separate kitchen and large storage area where the students have access to easels and gear storage is available.  We keep our class sizes intimate to create the true artistic atelier environment.


We have solved the 3 hour adult education class problem and offer beginner, intermediate through high-level, advanced, professional training that surpasses university instruction. Our facilities offer long form learning where problem solving and projects can extend indefinitely.

DRAWING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE


On going art classes for young people with a desire to understand more about art.


A weekly lesson teaching the technical aspects of drawing. Working with Soft pastels, Charcoal, and Pencil the students are guided through the process of drawing a Still Life set-up. The use of traditional organizing principles and visual elements of art are taught. Shape, volume, space, design, and color theory are discussed. Individual attention is given to each student. Progress is an ongoing process. Beginner’s materials are included. As students advance they may want to invest in their own supplies.
